2015 Volkswagen Golf Edition
The Volkswagen brand is represented by six premieres at the AMI (Auto Mobil
International) motor show in Leipzig that begins today: in honour of the 40th
anniversary of the Golf, Volkswagen is issuing the new premium special model
"Golf Edition"; another world premiere car that can be viewed is the
Beetle Cabriolet Karmann. The new, technically perfected Touareg is celebrating
its European debuts. Celebrating their first motor show appearances for the
German public are the new Scirocco, the new Golf GTE1 with a plug-in hybrid
drive and the Beetle Dune concept car with a higher-set body and distinctive
off-road design.
The special "Golf Edition" model combines the typical
characteristics of the successful bestseller with the exclusivity of the
premium class. Top xenon headlights with daytime running lights, machine
polished 17-inch "Singapore" design wheels (optional: 18-inch wheels)
and tinted rear and side windows all discreetly identify the exterior of the
anniversary model. In the interior, the premium ambience is underscored by
Alcantara leather seats, leather-trimmed steering wheel, leather gear shift
boot, black roof lining and illuminated door sill plates. The first-class
features also include the "Premium" multifunction display, "Composition
Media" radio system and assistance systems such as the Light & Sight
package (includes automatic running light switching and intermittent windscreen
wiper with rain sensor), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and "Blind Spot
Detection" (informs driver of vehicles in the "blind spot" which
makes lane changes easier).
Volkswagen is also celebrating the world premiere of the Beetle Cabriolet
Karmann2 at the AMI show. Just as in the Golf Cabrio Karmann before it,
Volkswagen is paying tribute to the body manufacturing company Karmann with
this new special model. Between 1949 and 1980, the company produced many Beetle
Cabriolet cars for Volkswagen. Exterior identifying features of the Beetle
Cabriolet Karmann include 18-inch "Disc" design wheels with chrome
caps, sport seats, leather-trimmed steering wheel, aluminium pedals and dash
pad with Beetle look in matt aluminium. The electric top sports the new colour
Sioux Brown, both inside and outside, it comes with a colour coordinated
tarpaulin and may be combined with seven different exterior body paints. The
special model is based on the "Design" equipment line, and it
contains a wind deflector and the Park Pilot parking distance monitor. Ordering
of the Beetle Cabriolet Karmann begins next month, and it covers all engine-gearbox
variants. On the other hand, the Beetle Dune, which is celebrating its German
premiere at the AMI show, is a near-production concept car that shows
everything that is feasible in this car.
In its home market, Volkswagen is showing good form so far this business
year. Through April, the Volkswagen passenger car brand increased its
deliveries by 2.0 per cent, delivering 184,100 (180,500) vehicles to customers.
This represents a 2.0 per cent increase over the prior year. Volkswagen has
been a guest at the AMI show in Leipzig since 1991. Its exhibit area is around
2,200 m² in size this year. On visitor days, Volkswagen is showing over 30
vehicles from its current model range here.
Volkswagen is offering interested visitors to the AMI show test drives in
the e-up!3, Golf Sportsvan and the new Polo, Golf TGI and Golf Estate. Over a
circuit course in the vicinity of the motor show site, experts of Volkswagen
Driving Experience accompany visitors as they drive and explain the vehicle
technology to them.
In Saxony, Volkswagen operates three production sites: in Zwickau, Chemnitz
and Dresden. Volkswagen is the largest car maker and one of the key employers
in Saxony – employing around 9,000 people – and Saxony is a modern hub site for
the Golf, Golf Estate and Passat models, and a place where Volkswagen
manufactures luxury bodies and vehicles as well as engines. To date, over four
million Volkswagen cars, over 100,000 luxury vehicles and over twelve million
Volkswagen engines have been produced in Saxony.
The Concept
With an exclusive concept car, the Golf Edition, Volkswagen is celebrating
at the Auto China the 40th anniversary of the Golf, which has been successful
around the globe. The anniversary edition's equipment was extensively
customised. A Golf has emerged that will be on the road in a league of its own
as one of the most premium models in its class. With its iconic design and
pioneering all-round features, the Volkswagen best-seller, of which more than
30 million have been sold worldwide, was reflective of technological progress,
and always head and shoulders above the rest. With the Golf Edition, another
highlight in the history of this model range is launched.
Special paint effect and 19-inch wheels. From the outside, the concept car
can be recognised by the exclusive "Magic Morning" colour and
machine-polished "Madrid" 19-inch alloy wheels; while the
"metallic" basic colour is white, it has a striking golden shimmer
depending on the angle of vision. The mirror caps of the Golf Edition are
finished in "matt chrome." Another distinctive feature is a badge on
the B pillars showing an engraved laurel wreath with the number "40".
Two-tone leather upholstery. The two-tone interior is particularly
exclusive and features leather upholstery ("Sensitive" type of leather)
that comes in two colours: "St. Tropez" (bright as a sand beach) and
"black". The sporty seats are another highlight. The centre panels up
to the headrests are done in "St. Tropez". The centre panels of the
seats and backs are upholstered with diamond-shaped stitching. The seams have a
brown hue, making for a warm contrast to the bright "St. Tropez"
colour. The interior designers opted for black leather as upholstery material
for the side and outside surfaces. Brown leather piping in "Sevilla"
forms the interface between the bright "St. Tropez" and the
"black" surfaces. The three-seat rear seating system is designed in
the same style as the front sports seats. The two outside seating surfaces in
the rear give the impression of exclusive individual seats.
Wood inlays and piano finish. Wood inlays in the door trim panels (with
integrated ambience lighting) and in the dashboard on the passenger's side are
used for the first time in the latest Golf. Perfectly matching in bright
"St. Tropez" are the door inserts in leather, roof pillar panels,
interior rooflining and arm rests. Making for a striking contrast is the decor
of the centre console, the instrument surrounds as well as the trims around the
air vents in high-gloss black piano finish. Likewise in "St. Tropez"
colour: the contrasting seams of the multifunction steering wheel covered in
black leather and the gear shift grip, also fitted in black leather. The floor
mats adopt the diamond pattern of the seats. The door sill plates are equipped
with ambience lighting and, after opening the doors, make the initial
impression of the new Golf Edition absolutely perfect.
